The romantic boutique apartment accommodation “Masseria Alchimia” is located in Fasano approximately 50 km South of Bari (the capital of Puglia in the heel of the Italian boot). In the 17th century, the Masseria had been a small hermitage. Owner and landlady Caroline Groszer bought it in 2006 and transformed it to a charming, small resort with 10 apartments, surrounded by natural landscape of old olive trees.
Imagine completely cutting out expensive hotel costs while also enjoying the space and convenience of a stylish away from home while on your vacation. You can do exactly that by arranging a home swap. Home exchanging is not a new concept (it started in the 1950s) but over recent years has become increasingly popular as more people discover the benefits.

Eolo is a luxurious ranch-style lodge nestled in a remote valley — on route to the Perito Moreno glacier, near El Calafate.
It is a stunning establishment where unspoiled nature can be explored or a relaxing holiday can be spent. Savor the delectable cuisine whilst enjoying the breathtaking landscape views.
Early in 2013 we are touring Chile and Argentina on a Relais & Châteaux assignment. They are a collection of the most beautiful restaurants and hotels scattered around the world. Historically the hotel collection started out in 1954 as ‘route du bonheur’ (route of happiness), rallying outstanding restaurants and hotels along the picturesque route from Paris to lavish Côte d’Azur on the Mediterranean.
Once we learned about that concept we thought there must also be a route du bonheur in Chile and Argentina. Here’s our take…
Autumn in Spain’s southern region of Andalusia is among the best travel seasons. It’s not so hot anymore and not rainy just yet. Golfers enjoy of a very mild Mediterranean climate and spectacular golf courses.
As a photographer more often than not you ask yourself whether you should grab that special moment and take the photograph right away or you better ask first and then try to catch up with the opportunity now gone. It’s pretty much a poker game at times. Here’s how I try to seize those special moments without embarrassing people.
During our two-week Puglia roundtrip we stayed at wonderful country houses (Masseria Cimino, Masseria Le Fabriche, Masseria Fumarola) and stylish hotels (La Sommità Relais, Acaya Golf Resort, Histó Relais). On our way in-between we also visited Borgo Egnazia Resort and Masseria Bagnara but we didn’t stay there overnight. Therefore they make it only to some of our unstructured list of rankings.
(You do have to discuss something at lunch time, don’t you? We like to compile our little ratings as a holiday review during the lengthy yet tasty Italian luncheons…)
Masseria Fumarola is a rural trulli style guest house which perfectly combines the charm of a traditional 19th century Puglian farmhouse with the service and amenities of a modern hotel.
Masseria Le Fabriche is a newly restored 18th century country manor, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. It’s only a 10-minutes drive from the coast of the Ionic see and makes for a splendid stay in Italy’s Southern region of Puglia.
