# Abu Dhabi’s magnificent Sheikh Zayed Mosque

> The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is the UAE's largest mosque and eighth-largest in the world, a spectacular blend of white marble, gold leaf, and record-breaking grandeur that draws visitors of all backgrounds.

## When to go
Visit around 3:30 p.m. to enjoy the mosque in full daylight, then stay through the blue hour at dusk for the best photography and thinner crowds.

## What to see
- **World's largest hand-knotted carpet** — 5,600 sq m, weighing 35 tons, woven by over 1,000 Iranian craftspeople over 18 months.
- **World's largest chandelier** — 12-ton, 10-meter-diameter fixture of gilded bronze and Swarovski crystals, fabricated in Munich.
- **Main dome** — 33-meter diameter, the largest in the mosque and a world record holder; the complex has 83 domes in total.
- **Four minarets** — Each rises 107 meters, visible from across the city.
- **Marble columns and interior** — More than 1,000 columns clad in white marble decorated with flowers and date palms, accented with 24-karat gold leaf and stained glass.

## What to do
- **Free guided tour** — Complimentary guided tours are available inside the mosque.
- **Photography at blue hour** — Dusk lighting transforms the white exterior and is the prime time for dramatic shots.

## Good to know
Entry and guided tours are free. Women are loaned a free abaya at the entrance; men must wear trousers and a long-sleeved shirt. No shorts, bare shoulders, physical intimacy, eating, or smoking. Non-Muslims admitted Sat–Thu 9 a.m.–10 p.m.; on Fridays, non-Muslim visitors may enter from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. only.
