# Chäserrugg – New mountain restaurant on the Churfirsten range

> Chäserrugg, the easternmost peak of the Churfirsten range in eastern Switzerland, is home to a striking new mountain restaurant designed by Basel star architects Herzog & De Meuron, perched at 2,262 metres with panoramic views over the Walensee and Flums Mountains.

## Getting there
Take the Iltios incline train from Unterwasser (900 m) to the mountain station at 1,339 m, then continue by cable car to the Chäserrugg summit station.

## When to go
Accessible for hikers and skiers; clear days offer panoramic views over the Walensee, though fog can roll in and obscure the scenery.

To experience the newly built Herzog & De Meuron mountain restaurant, enjoy sweeping alpine panoramas, and walk an easy high-plateau trail with chances of spotting ibex.

## What to see
- **Herzog & De Meuron mountain restaurant** — A roughly 50-metre-long building clad in Swiss pine with a tin roof, sun terrace on concrete strip footings, and meticulously hung ceiling lights.
- **Panoramic view of Walensee and Flums Mountains** — A vertiginous vista spreading out from the 2,262 m summit on clear days.
- **Ibex on the Rosenboden plateau** — Wild ibex frequently rest on rocky outcrops of the high plateau and can be observed at close range.

## What to do
- **Blumenweg (flower trail)** — A signposted 3 km trail across the Rosenboden high plateau with only 60 m of elevation change — ideal for an easy post-lunch walk.
- **Alphorn concert on the terrace** — On fine weather days, visitors can sit on the restaurant's front steps and listen to live alphorn performances.

## Good to know
The restaurant is split between a self-service area and a full-service restaurant; dining niches seat up to eight people and face the Obertoggenburg. The route from Unterwasser also passes the Klangwelten installation near the Schwendisee.
