# Grindelwald glacier gorge – roaring water and a blue spider’s web!

> The Grindelwald Glacier Gorge in the Bernese Oberland is a dramatic canyon carved by glacial meltwater, featuring thundering rapids, towering rock walls, and a walkable blue 'spider web' installation suspended above the gorge.

Grindelwald, Bernese Oberland, Switzerland, at the foot of the Eiger north face.

## Getting there
Visitors park directly in front of the glacier gorge entrance and enter through a tunnel leading into the canyon.

## When to go
Open May through October, daily 09:30–18:00 (Fridays until 22:00).

## Why visit
Mother Nature carved an impressive gorge over millennia using glacial meltwater, resulting in 900-foot vertical rock walls, roaring whitewater, and a dramatic play of light — all accessible via a baby-stroller-safe walkway with thematic sections covering geology, glaciers, water, and local folklore.

## What to see
- **Lütschine river canyon** — Thundering whitewater rushes between near-vertical rock walls up to 900 feet high, creating a powerful, almost deafening spectacle.
- **Rock galleries and wooden walkways** — Hazardous-looking but stroller-safe paths wind through the gorge along the canyon walls.
- **Blue 'spider web' installation** — A large-meshed cable net lit by blue and violet spotlights stretches across the chasm and is walkable.

## What to do
- **Walk the glacier gorge trail** — Follow the themed route through sections covering gorge formation, geology, water, glaciers, and folklore.
- **Cross the spider web** — The boldest visitors can walk across the bouncing, large-meshed cable net suspended above the roaring Lütschine.
- **Hike the Eiger Panorama Trail** — A highly recommended hike in the surrounding area passing the Bachalpsee lakes with views of the Eiger north face and Wetterhorn.

## Good to know
Admission prices as of October 2018: CHF 19 adults, CHF 17 with guest coupon or groups of 10+, CHF 9 for school classes of 10+. The gorge is suitable for families including young children. Friday evening hours extend to 22:00.
