# Ridge hiking – single file, from Klingenstock to the Fronalpstock

> A ridge hike in Central Switzerland from Fronalpstock to Klingenstock above the car-free mountain village of Stoos, offering panoramic views of Lake Lucerne, Pilatus, Rigi, and the Mythen peaks.

## Destination
Stoos, Central Switzerland, at approximately 1,300 meters above sea level. The ridge runs between Fronalpstock and Klingenstock.

## Getting there
Take the Schlattli-Stoos funicular railway to Stoos. From Stoos, a chairlift runs up to the Fronalpstock as the starting point of the ridge hike. A second chairlift at Klingenstock returns to Stoos at the end.

## When to go
Weekdays are strongly recommended on fine-weather days to avoid heavy foot traffic on the narrow ridge path, which forces single-file hiking when busy.

## Why visit
Spectacular above-the-fog panoramic views of Lake Lucerne and the iconic Central Swiss peaks of Pilatus, Rigi, and Mythen, combined with a challenging narrow ridge walk secured with chains in its trickiest sections.

- **Panoramic view from Fronalpstock** — Wide views west and north to Pilatus, Rigi, and Mythen, with Lake Lucerne partly wrapped in fog below.
- **Stoos chapel** — A picturesque chapel in the car-free village of Stoos, with the Mythen peaks visible behind it.

## What to do
- **Fronalpstock–Klingenstock ridge hike** — A demanding narrow ridge walk with steep ascents and descents; tricky passages are secured with chains — requires sure-footedness, no vertigo, and sturdy boots.
- **Chairlift to Fronalpstock** — An easy alternative to the steep ascent on foot, used to reach the start of the ridge hike.
- **Schlattli-Stoos funicular railway** — The main access to Stoos from the valley; a new funicular with a 110% grade was under construction at the time of the hike.

## Good to know
The hike is described as running from Fronalpstock down to Klingenstock. The ridge is narrow in places and can be very busy at weekends, forcing hikers into single file. Tricky sections are secured with chains courtesy of travel agent Baumeler Reisen.
