# Hiking along the Walensee – courtesy of Mammut

> The Walensee (Lake Walen) in eastern Switzerland offers a scenic 'wine hike' from Walenstadt to the car-free village of Quinten, winding through steep forest trails beneath the Churfirsten mountain range and finishing with a lake cruise back.

Start from Walenstadt; return from Quinten by lake cruiser that docks near the Alte Post wine cellar

## Why visit
A lakeside wine-hiking trail combining dramatic scenery below the Churfirsten range with vineyard views, local wine tasting, and a relaxed boat ride back across the lake.

## What to see
- **Churfirsten mountain range** — Majestic peaks forming the backdrop along the entire trail above the Walensee.
- **Walensee shore views** — Panoramic views toward Walenstadt and Quinten, including the lakeside vineyards.
- **Quinten vineyards** — The wine village's terraced vines are the centrepiece of the wine-hiking trail.

## What to do
- **Wine hike from Walenstadt to Quinten** — Steep forest section with serpentines and creek crossings leads down to the peaceful lakeside trail; hiking poles recommended.
- **Wine tasting at Alte Post, Quinten** — Small tasting room in the Alte Post cellar where you can sample Chasselas, Pinot Blanc, Blanc de Noir and Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir).
- **Lake cruiser back to Walenstadt** — Boat docks conveniently next to the Alte Post in the car-free village of Quinten for a relaxed return trip.
- **Stop at Calusa Beizli** — Rustic inn near Walenstadt good for refreshments before or after the steep forest section.

## Good to know
Quinten is a car-free village. Sturdy footwear and hiking poles are advised for the steep forest descent from Walenstadt. The wine hike stops and wine tasting can be organised through Outivity.
