# Opulent Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron

> Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron is a privately operated baroque palace-hotel on the shore of Leopoldskroner Weiher Lake in Salzburg, offering guests exclusive access to its historic rooms, suites, and estate grounds steeped in centuries of cultural and political history.

## Getting there
A local bus from the lake shore opposite the palace reaches downtown Salzburg in a few minutes (one-way ticket €2.50); the walk takes approximately 25 minutes. Hotel guests also have free use of a smartfortwo electric drive vehicle.

## Why visit
Guests have the run of a genuine baroque palace estate — including its opulent historic rooms — that served as home to theatre impresario Max Reinhardt, co-birthplace of the Salzburg Festival, and filming location for The Sound of Music (1964).

## What to see
- **Venetian Room** — Reinhardt's masterpiece, featuring Italian wall mirrors staged with pieces from his private Commedia dell'Arte collection.
- **Marble Room** — Breakfast room with a stuccoed ceiling, marble floor, and views over the Weiher Lake.
- **Max Reinhardt's Library** — The author's favourite room, commissioned in 1927/28 by Reinhardt from a Salzburg cabinet maker, connected to the Max Reinhardt Suite by a hidden spiral staircase.
- **Chinese Room** — Adjacent to the Library, blending stage art pictures from the Reinhardt era with original baroque elements.
- **Great Hall** — The grand entrance hall, large enough that Archbishop Firmian was driven into it by coach.

The hotel experience is deliberately non-standardised — one guest summed it up: 'Once you understand that they are not a hotel then you will find it to be a very good hotel.'
