# Wildlife Paradise: on Safari in Botswana’s Linyanti Concession

> The Linyanti Concession in northern Botswana, lying above the Okavango Delta, is a wildlife-rich wilderness of open savanna, riparian forest, and the Linyanti River border with Namibia — offering close encounters with the Big Five and abundant birdlife.

## Why visit
Exceptional concentration of wildlife including lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos, zebras, wildebeest, warthogs, and vast numbers of impalas, set against a contrast-rich landscape of open savanna, dense riparian forest, mixed bush, and the dry Savuti Canal.

## What to see
- **Linyanti River** — Border waterway between Namibia and Botswana; elephant herds regularly cross it and it attracts large numbers of birds, serving as a breeding ground in summer.
- **Open savanna and riparian forest** — Contrasting landscape of rolling grasslands giving way to dense riverside forest, mixed bush, and the bone-dry Savuti Canal.
- **Leadwood trees** — Impressive trees growing up to 20 metres tall with umbrella-like crowns, striking even when dead and dry.
- **Big Five wildlife** — Buffalos, leopards, and elephants among the most visible; lions and leopards hunt the savanna grazers.
- **Impala herds** — Present in overwhelming numbers; locally nicknamed 'McDonalds' for the white M-shaped marking on their hindquarters.

## What to do
- **Photo safari game drives** — Guided drives into the savanna with Kings Pool Camp guides to photograph and observe wildlife including leopards, elephants, buffalo, and even camouflaged puff adders.
- **Sundowner stop** — Traditional late-afternoon pause on the return from a game drive to watch the sunset — a nightly highlight of the safari routine.

## Good to know
Safari drives are guided from Kings Pool Camp (a Wilderness Safaris property). Breakdowns such as fuel-line leaks or getting stuck in drift sand in the middle of the savanna are treated as part of the adventure, with guides handling repairs on the spot.
