Roadside guides offer a guarded parking lot near the entrance. The nearest base town is Quepos. ## When to go Arrive early (at or just after 7:00 a.m.) for fewer crowds, cooler temperatures, and more animal activity. By midday crowds thin out again. The park is open 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. and is closed on Tuesdays. ## Why visit A rare combination of accessible tropical rainforest and Pacific beaches in a small area, with frequent wildlife sightings including capuchin monkeys and sloths. Easy paths make it suitable for all fitness levels. ## What to see - **Cathedral Point (Punta Catedral)** — A loop hike through dense coastal rainforest onto a peninsula between two beaches, with sea views and quieter trails away from the main crowds. - **Playa Manuel Antonio & Playa Espadilla Sur** — Two fine-sand, turquoise-water beaches backed directly by jungle, described as surprisingly uncrowded. - **Capuchin monkeys** — Frequently seen along paths and beaches; known to raid unattended backpacks — food is not permitted in the park. - **Sloths** — Spotted high in the canopy, perfectly camouflaged; a guide or spotting scope helps locate them. ## What to do - **Wildlife watching along park trails** — Short, well-built paths through the canopy edge; look where other visitors are pointing up into the trees. - **Swimming at the park beaches** — Entering the Pacific with rainforest and palms directly behind you is described as the park's defining experience. - **Guided nature tour** — Recommended for maximum wildlife sightings and animal lore; book a guide in advance rather than accepting roadside touts. ## Good to know Entry numbers are strictly capped — book tickets in advance via SINAC only (third-party resellers charge extra fees).
