A 4x4 vehicle is strongly recommended. Allow plenty of time — curves are tight and slow-moving trucks are common. Monteverde is not en route to anywhere; the drive is a deliberate detour. ## When to go The forest is damp year-round. Starting hikes early in the day means fewer visitors, more silence, and better conditions for wildlife.
