# Night Safari in Singapore – an action-packed evening

> Singapore's Night Safari offers an after-dark tram journey through six geographical regions, bringing visitors within metres of over 1,000 animals from 120 species, many of them endangered, in habitats that closely replicate the wild.

Night Safari, Mandai, north Singapore — within walking distance of Singapore Zoo and River Safari.

## Getting there
Singapore Airlines operates to Singapore and offers a stopover package that includes free admission to Night Safari and over 15 other tourist attractions, plus complimentary rides on the SIA Hop-on Bus.

## Why visit
The only way to see nocturnal wildlife up close in naturalistic enclosures spanning the Himalayas, India, Africa, Southeast Asia, Nepal and Burma — all in a single evening — alongside live entertainment shows.

## What to see
- **Tram Safari** — A 40-minute guided tram ride through six geographical regions, passing lions, tigers, elephants, rhinos, hippos and over 1,000 animals from 120 species.
- **Himalayan Foothills zone** — Features tahr, bharal, mouflon and the markhor, the world's largest wild goat with long corkscrew horns.
- **Equatorial Africa zone** — Home to Cape giraffe, scimitar-horned oryx, bongo antelope and the Nile hippopotamus.
- **Rainforests of Southeast Asia zone** — Includes bull elephant Chawang (the Night Safari icon), a herd of Asian elephants with a calf, Malayan tapirs and red dholes.
- **Nepalese River Valley zone** — Habitat of the greater Asian rhinoceros, sambar deer and the Indian wolf.
- **Burma hillside zone** — Home to the gaur, the world's largest wild cattle, and the petite banteng.
- **Walking trails** — Four interlinked trails bring visitors closer to Sri Lankan leopards, wallabies, fishing cats, otters and the critically endangered Sunda pangolin.
- **Malayan tiger enclosure** — Critically endangered big cat with only 240–350 left in the wild; can be seen prowling or resting in a spacious habitat.

## What to do
- **Creatures of the Night Show** — A 20-minute animal show featuring a recycling otter, a leaping African serval and Maggie the reticulated python, with audience participation.
- **Thumbuakar tribal pyro performance** — Adrenalin-pumping fire-eating, flame-throwing and fire-sticks show by tribal warriors that closes the evening's entertainment.

## Good to know
Night Safari is one of four wildlife reserves in Singapore, alongside Singapore Zoo, River Safari and Jurong Bird Park. The Singapore Airlines stopover package covers free admission to Night Safari and 15-plus other attractions. Allocate at least half a day per reserve; a full day is recommended for wildlife enthusiasts.
