Eastern Sardinia is known for its picturesque towns such as Orosei and the beaches between Cala Liberotto and Cala Goloritzé, which are interrupted by rugged rock formations.
The east coast of Sardinia offers countless spiaggias, sandy beaches that gently slope into the sea.
Cala Liberotto with its adjacent rock formations is considered particularly beautiful.
The east of Sardinia is therefore an ideal bathing destination. There are more sandy beaches here than in northern Sardinia (link to my travel tips).
Picturesque little town of Orosei
South of the Cala Liberotto beach, the village of Orosei is a great place for a stopover.
There are several restaurants and cafés in the village square Piazza del Popolo and the Albergo Diffuso Mannois also has its reception here.
In Italy, Albergo Diffuso is the name given to accommodation spread over half the village: The restaurant and reception are located in one building, the room is in a Dépendence.

Great beach bar Stella di Mare
South of Orosei, you shouldn’t miss the adventurously secluded Beach bar “Stella di Mare”.
You can reach the bar and grill restaurant along the Stagno di Avalè – Su Pedrosu bathing lake.
About a hundred meters further on, you will find the Su BarOne Ristorante Beach Bar on the same beach, Spiaggia Su Barone. However, it ends the season earlier than the family-run Stella di Mare Beach Bar.
The fried mullet tastes extremely spicy for a white fish! My best fish on the entire trip to Sardinia!
Beaches of Cala Gonone
The remote beaches of Cala Luna or Cala Gorolitzé south of Cala Gonone in the Gulf of Orosei can only be reached by boat due to the steep coastline. Or via a hike from the campsites in the hinterland.
Practically speaking, motorboats up to 40 hp can be steered in Italy without a boating license. Accordingly, more than 20 booking offices are available in Cala Gonone to provide tourists and leisure captains with the “Gommone”, high-speed inflatable boats with a powerful outboard motor including awning.

But be careful: If you’re not particularly agile, you won’t be able to get back up onto the dinghy on your own after swimming in the sea. Despite folding down the small steps.
Therefore, someone should always stay on board to lift the others back into the boat.
If you don’t want to venture into the open sea on your own, book a day trip on one of the larger boats. They head for several beaches and stop there for a swim in the sea.

The SS125 road winds its way through the wooded hinterland along the steep cliffs of the east coast of Sardinia.
Beware of the speeding motorcyclists, because the long bends make you want to speed up!
