Byron Bay is located just off the Pacific Highway, 175km south of Brisbane. With its numerous beaches, unspoilt hinterland, and relaxed lifestyle, Byron Bay is a popular tourist destination.

This stylish coastal village with its cafes, bistros and restaurants offers something for everyone. And the shopping experience is unique – with its wide range of outlets and clothing shops, even men can spend a whole day shopping and buying some cool Billabong or Speedo shorts :-)
Walter got himself, among other…, very stylish “Josh style” linen shorts. VERY comfy!

We stayed at the stylish Byron Resort and Spa at Byron Bay, which we can highly recommend.

Cape Byron Lighthouse

Cape Byron is Australia mainland’s most easterly point. The Cape Byron Lighthouse is not only the most easterly light, but it’s also Australia’s most powerful Lighthouse. It was built in 1901 and for a century alerted passing ships to the dangers of the coast.

Standing on a bald rocky headland with a precipitous cliff, Cape Byron offers a stunning view. If you are lucky and in season, you might see some dolphins or whales!

Lamington National Park

From Byron Bay we made an excursion to the Lamington National park, in the Gold Coast Hinterland. Lamington National Park is known for its natural beauty, rainforests, bird life, ancient trees, waterfalls, walking tracks and mountain views.

A very spectacular tree top walk allows for walks through the canopy of the rainforest. It is made up of 9 suspension bridges and with its 180 meters in length this tree top walk was the first of its kind in Australia. It is a very special feeling walking 15 meters above the ground.

Along the tree top walk there are also two observation decks (accessible via ladder) which enable people to climb even higher into the tree tops, offering a breathtaking view over the rainforest canopy. Needless to say that you will enjoy the outlook only if you don’t suffer from fear of heights!
