Out of a one month stay in Australia we spent 2 full days in Sydney. The Establishment hotel in the Rocks district near the harbour is awesome, we can highly recommend it.

Sydney Points of Interest

A good start is to take the hop-on hop-off open-top double-decker bus nearby the hotel in George Street. That’s also where the main shopping area is. The coach takes you to the main points of interest, i.e. Sydney Tower, Darling harbour, Opera house, harbour and the districts in-between.

Numerous and surprisingly well designed waterfront restaurants offer food, drinks and decks to watch the world go by.

There’s a whole choice of harbour tours. We opted for the 1-hour tour that offers splendid views of the opera house, Sydney’s skyline, villa quarters by the shoreline, Darling harbour with Captain Cook’s Endeavor sailship near the maritime museum.

Bill Bryson’s ‘A Sunburned Country‘ is excellent reading on Australian pecularities. Don’t miss the section on cricket. It’s hilarious ;-)
