The Great Ocean Road in Victoria, South Australia, is one of the world’s most scenic drives with a stunning coastline. The road winds along cliff tops offering breathtaking panoramic views.
Driving from Melbourne southwards we stopped over at Apollo Bay. The drive between Lorne and Apollo Bay is a very picturesque part of the Great Ocean Road…. even with bad weather!
In Apollo Bay we had dinner at “La Bimba” restaurant, a relaxed Moroccan style bistro, with tiled tables, coloured wall hangings and paintings. We can warmly recommend the “Whole Mirror John Dory” with Marrocan spices and couscous – very delicious! But order only a small starter, the John Dory is huge ;-)
Great Otway National Park
The Great Otway National Park offers various attractions and things to do; camping, horse riding, mountain biking and walking. One of the most spectacular waterfalls around is the “Triplet Falls”.
For guaranteed Koala sightings we recommend the Kennett River Koala walk. You often spot them eating or sleeping in trees right next to the road!
Twelve Apostles
The most famous section of the Great Ocean Road is between Apollo Bay and Port Campbell and features an amazing collection of rock formations known as the “Twelve Apostles”. These giant rock stacks that rise majestically from the Southern Ocean have been created by constant erosion of the limestone cliffs of the mainland that began 10–20 million years ago!
Our journey continued to Port Fairy where we stayed at the recommendable Oscar’s at the Waterfront Boutique Hotel.

I love your blog and your photos are amazing. I grew up just 10 minutes from Port Campbell. We went swimming there in the summer. Ahh, the memories.
Thanks!
Well, you grew up in an amazing environment… We enjoyed our trip very much!
