Oscar’s at the Waterfront Boutique Hotel – Port Fairy, Victoria

We stayed at Oscar’s at the Waterfront, a recommendable boutique hotel by the waterfront.

Oscar’s Accomodation in Port Fairy

The rooms at Oscar’s Boutique Hotel are generous, the breakfast very tasty. Wireless internet is available in the rooms and the lounge.

Restaurants in Port Fairy

We had very good dinner at ‘Portofino at Banks’, an Italian fine dining restaurant. It’s situated at walking distance from Oscar’s on Port Fairy‘s main street ‘Banks’.

L’Edera is another recommended Italian restaurant on Bank street. It’s closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so we couldn’t try it.

  1. L’Edera was recommended to me during my recent visit to Port Fairy. Most disappointing. The calamari entree was tasteless and inedible. Had to send it back. The next course was nochi with lamb; I can only describe as “stodge”. Possibly the worst “fine dining” experience I have ever had, and I have dined all around the world. Just can’t understand how the food could be so bad. Needless to say will not go back nor recommend to friends who visit Port Fairy. Howevr Rebecca’s cafe has the best coffee tasted for a long time and very proficient staff for breakfast, etc.

    • Dear Garry

I’m sorry for your bad experience! It always sucks to be ‘allegedly’ fine dining but then the food is not up to par…

We didn’t have dinner there but I can tell from the number of Google visitors on my blog that many travellers search for l’Edera. The restaurant doesn’t seem to have a website of their own so I get a fair amount of traffic. I hope they will improve their service before more reviewers chime in with you!

  2. Just to let you know that L’edera was also recommended to me and my legal colleagues when we were staying in Port Fairy a couple of months ago for a conference.

Our experience was a lot different than Garry’s as we found the food and service at L’edera to be top notch, bellisimo and truly authentic Italian cuisine. Having been to Italy on numerous occasions, I have had the opportunity to sample the food there and I kid you not, L’edera gives Italy a run for its money. Italian cuisine is fresh, exquisite and artistic, that’s what you will get with L’edera.

We had the opportunity to meet Giovanni the chef who is a warm-hearted Italian and the staff made us feel most comfortable and relaxed.
I think Port Fairy are very lucky to have such a restaurant in the heart of town.

Congratulations Giovanni, you are doing a great job, good onya mate!

  3. Our experience at L’Edera was also quite different from Garry’s, we were also recommended to dine there from our accommodation during our stay in Port Fairy. We found the restaurant a wonderful asset for such a small town, the building is truly spectacular and very beautiful decor. We had just returned from a holiday in Europe which also included Italy and can also back up Steve Williams comment that the food is just as good if not better than what we ate whilst away, we enjoyed some very lovely meals in Italy. The prices of the food were reasonable and compared only slightly more in cost too some of the cafe’s in town that we had tried. We have stayed at both Oscar’s and The Douglas and found them both really lovely places to stay, although quite different from each other. Cannot wait to get back to Port Fairy for a weekend away and try some more of their wonderful establishments for accommodation and eating.

    • Thanks for sharing! I’m glad you had a nice dining experience ;-)
