Chateau de La Barre, Loire Valley, France

Guest article by Marnie de Vanssay.

Chateau de La Barre, less than 2 hours from Paris, lies at the entrance to the French “Valley of the Kings”, the Loire Valley, with it’s famous castles, vineyards and medieval towns.

What better way to experience this picturesque region of France than being a guest in an elegant and authentic private château, which has been in the family for more than 600 years?

Secluded amidst a private 100 acre park with woods, meadows, fragrant gardens, a family chapel, and XVIth century fortifications, you will be protected from the maddening crowds even in the height of summer.

Chateau Guest Rooms

Château de La Barre has 5 ornate and elegant reception rooms and 9 magnificently appointed ensuite guest rooms, all replete with precious family antiques, oil paintings, and vibrant designer fabrics, without compromising on modern comfort! The atmosphere prevailing throughout is both one of relaxed chic and understated luxury.

What to Do at the Chateau

At Château de La Barre, your hosts, Comte & Comtesse de Vanssay, 20th generation, will not only welcome you as family friends, but assist you in planning your visit, sharing their love and knowledge of all the hidden gems of their region with you: oenological games in wineries of the Loire, magical Sound & Light shows in the still quite unknown medieval Plantagenet City of Le Mans, stage to numerous films, or race car driving on the famed Le Mans tracks in your dream car, balloon flights departing from the château park, riding through the bucolic countryside, 3 exciting golf courses nearby, and much sightseeing ranging from the famous renaissance castles to romanesque XIIth century chapels in quaint villages, romantic gardens, farmers markets, gourmet restaurants and much more

Twice weekly, Guy and Marnie host a Grand Siècle Dinner in their XVIIth century dining room with all the family silver and crystal. Alternatively, more relaxed wine & cheese tasting suppers can be arranged in the informal “pièce à feu” in front of the XIVth century majestic fireplace.

For small parties of 10 to 20 guests, Guy and Marnie de Vanssay can open up other private estates in their region, with luncheon and tea receptions hosted by the respective owners. A truly gracious and private view of France the way you can experience “By Invitation Only”…

Prices per room per night (2 nights min) range from 210 to 360 euros, including VIP welcome drink, English breakfast and tax.
Exclusive rental of the entire château for a group starts from 2800 euros per night.
