Rajasthan tour based out of Delhi. We took to a 3-week roundtrip with our driver Ashok and his air-conditioned SUV. Many times we stayed at spectacular heritage Maharaja palaces.

I have always been an avid traveler and have visited many places around the world. I have always been interested in exploring new cultures and meeting new people. As a child, I was always fascinated with the thought of travelling to Rajasthan.

I grew up hearing and reading many interesting stories related to India, which made me even more attracted to the place. The stories about their rich culture, palaces, people, desert, camels, traditions, foods, festivals, etc.

In May I took a trip to fairly hot but dry India. Initially, I stayed in Delhi for a few days and got a chance to come closer to the rich Indian culture and learn about the country’s history by visiting the bazaars and monuments like the Red Fort in old Delhi.

Finally, the day came and I was all set to head to Rajasthan. The staff at my Delhi hotel was very cooperative and helpful. My private driver Ashok had been to Rajasthan many times and he had excellent knowledge of the main attractions. He was a very experienced driver and always found a safe way in the busiest traffic and made sure that the trip was safe and comfortable.

Our first destination in Rajasthan was Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur. Located in the heart of Rajasthan, Udaipur is a city of beautiful palaces and lakes. Adorning the banks of Lake Pichola (and the famous James Bond hotel as featured in ‘Octopussy’) and a standing witness to the historic City Palace, The Oberoi Udaivilas captures all the romance and splendor of a royal era. It reflects the rich heritage of the Mewar region of Rajasthan with its rambling courtyards, gentle rippling fountains, reflection pools and verdant gardens.

Stunning architecture showcases a picture of majesty resplendent with pavilions and domes that lead you to a journey of discovery, and the interiors embellished with decorative domes, hand painted frescoes, intricate mirror work and beautifully crafted artifacts create an ambiance of regal splendor.

Staying at The Oberoi Udaivilas was a once in a lifetime experience. Tastefully decorated rooms with terraces that open on to semi-private swimming pools present picturesque views and are a unique feature of Udaivilas, and the beautifully designed suites with private swimming pools and outdoor dining pavilions are an exclusive retreat. The restaurant serves a fine local as well as international cuisine. I wish I could stay here for some more days, but since I was on a package tour I had to leave for my next destinations, Samode Palace Heritage Luxury Hotel in Deogarh Mahal, Fort Mehrangarh in Jodhpur and Ranthambore Tiger Reserve among many more…

After spending three weeks in beautiful Rajasthan, I and my driver Ashok headed back to Delhiin his air-conditioned SUV, and I must say that the 4 wheel drive trip to Rajasthan from and to Delhi is an experience I will cherish throughout my life.
