Tuscany is a paradise for gourmands. Regional specialties range from wild pig to Pecorino cheese and truffles to the renowned cantucci almond cookies. In the mountain village of Castelfalfi we tasted our way through the exquisite Tuscan cuisine:

A short time ago we took a marvelous short vacation in Toscana Castelfalfi Resort. Here is my take  on the romantic borgo (village).

Castelfalfi in Tuscany

In TUI’s new Blue Selection resort, they place special emphasis on regional products. Come along on a culinary journey through Castelfalfi’s three restaurants:

Gourmet Restaurant La Rocca di Castelfalfi

This fine eatery is located in the cellar of the medieval castle. The ambiance is elegant and impressive.

Top chef Michele Rinaldi from Bergamo is here to newly interpret the traditional Tuscan cuisine with meat and fish dishes.

So, for instance, the gourmet chef conjures up a culinary masterpiece from simple vegetables by giving the ribollita, the traditional hearty Tuscan vegetable stew, his personal touch. But this masterful chef also does wonders with fish, meat and pasta dishes.

We decide to order the Gran Gourmet menu:

Foie gras and chicken liver paté
Beef tatare with black truffles
Pacchero pasta with crustacean tartare
Stinging nettle ravioli served with calf sweetbread
Chocolate-sorbet creation for dessert.

This gourmet restaurant is an absolute must for your Castelfalfi Resort program.

La Via del Sale – Castelfalfi Resort’s main restaurant

“La Via del Sale” is the restaurant in the resort’s main building. Here they serve an authentic Italian cuisine in a modern setting.

The menu is tempting and many-faceted. And with it of course are offered many choice wines.

Walter treats himself to a filet of pork with creamed carrot-orange, grilled onion and sauteed winter endive. For my part, I can’t resist the beef filet with truffles.

For our first course, we choose the tortelli alla carbonara – very tasty!

A crème brulée crowns the meal fittingly.

This being early May, it was still somewhat chilly in the evenings unfortunately. Otherwise, in warm weather the exquisite meals can be enjoyed on the terrace with its grand view of the bucolic Tuscan scenery.

Bellissimo!

Breakfast is also served in Restaurant La Via del Sale.

And what a sumptuous breakfast buffet it is! Mounds of healthful müesli, fruits, and salads tower over somewhat less-healthful but oh! so good pastries like torta della nonna and more.

In addition, they serve up a variety of egg dishes. Walter does not miss the chance of doing his rampant eggs benedict test. Here’s his global ranking (in German).

Pizzeria Il Rosmarino

Restaurant “Il Rosmarino” is kept in a low-key rustic ambiance. Here they prepare palate-pleasing traditional dishes for lunch and dinner with regional and seasonal products.

In warm weather, the terrace makes for relaxed alfresco dining.

A highlight is the crispy thin-crust pizza straight from the wood-fired oven. It is prepared exclusively with local Castelfalfi olive oil and only in the wood-fired oven.
