What is it that just landed in the village of Saanen? Did it come from another planet? From Italy? Thailand? From planet Takeout maybe? Far out? You bet! It’s the Boucherie (English: Butcher Shop), which just happens to be the latest (g)astronomical project launched here by those perpetual-motion brothers, Simon and Nik Buchs.

On December 6, 2014, in the renovated historic Bircher House in Saanen’s pedestrian shopping zone, a grocery store of another kind opened its doors: besides lots of cheeses and meat (Boucherie!) you can stock up here on select vintages like the Cornarea Roero Arneis or a Serge Roh with just a hint of sweetness…

You should really let Serge accompany you when you go for the Boucherie’s third discipline: authentically spicy Thai food. Sweet Serge is the perfect match for it!

How do we know this? Because the kitchen of the 16 Art Bar Restaurant somehow had gotten notice they would be cooking for a Chinese tour group instead of what turned out to be our group of ten travel bloggers… Does that mean we should dig deep into little bowls of chilies and other hot stuff? Here is our corresponding spicy heat report from the 16 Art Bar Restaurant, another of the artful Buchs foodie family’s art and food projects, always with artistic support from father Herbert Buchs.

However spicy hot you like them, the tasty Thai dishes prepared by distaff Thai cook Tan are also available for takeout. It just takes a phone call, you put in the order and, before picking up the “hot merchandise,” you may want to retire to the Mediterranean ambiance of this new food paradise for an aperitif…
Just one more attraction in the Bernese Highlands!

On the occasion of said visit by the travel bloggers, master mind Simon Buchs and manager Jérôme Lucas went all out and in short order turned half the store, which meanwhile was serving other customers, into a first class aperitif bar. There was most certainly no shortage of photo ops for the photo-obsessed blogger mob. And after everything was captured on a chip, we savored our photo subjects of cheese, ham, salami, dried meat and olives, topped off with that very same Cornarea Roero Arneis.

Whoa, can blogging really get any better than this?

Hope you, too, have fun shopping and indulging ;-)
