Centrally located between Davos-Dorf and Davos-Platz is the Hilton Garden Inn that opened its doors just a year ago. It is the first hotel of the Hilton Garden Inn brand in Switzerland and we were invited to give it a try.

The Hilton Garden Inn hotel concept is shaped by the following five principles:

Sleep soundly

Right away, this first promise made us ecstatic! All beds are equipped with nearly 50 cm thick mattresses and three different kinds of pillows. We slept blissfully, as if on Cloud 9.

The rest of the room amenities made us feel even better. A bathroom with Neutrogena cosmetics and large shower head, a balcony with mountain views, and climate control by touch screen heighten the overall comfort.

The beds of the Italian Serta bed system ensure a sound sleep

Work smart

Mid-January is probably not the ideal time for vacationing in Davos, since, along with the military and police, this is when a who’s who in world politics and business comes to Europe’s highest city Europe to cavort at the World Economic Forum (WEF). But if you’re on a business trip, the Hilton Garden Inn, located directly across from the convention center, is the perfect place to stay.

Guests get free WiFi throughout the hotel, something that nowadays is taken for granted. But there are also LAN cables for better connections installed on the generous work surfaces in the rooms (quite practical for us travel bloggers.)

In the 24 hour Business Center, you can print out last-minute handouts for your meeting in one of the conference rooms.

Eat well

As the name “The Grill” perhaps suggests, alas you will look in vain for Graubünden specialties on the restaurant’s menu. Instead, variously prepared hearty meat and fish dishes are served. The show kitchen lets you watch your order being prepared.

We found the breakfast buffet especially to our liking. From classic toast, to all sort of muesli to the Belgian waffles, everything that the kitchen has to offer is here for the taking. Those beds having lived up to their promise, we slept in until 9:30 a.m. By that time, the breakfast buffet was no longer photogenic.

Treat yourself

The lobby is the Hilton Garden Inn’s centerpiece. Here is where it all happens, where you meet for an aperitif at the bar, for a chat or to get some work done while ensconced in the comfortable couches.

The bar is incorporated directly into the Hilton Garden Inn lobby

The compact mini mart in the lobby not far from the front desk figured in another welcome surprise. On settling into our room, we had noticed the completely empty minibar. That allowed us to fill it with our choices. True to the “treat yourself” concept, in the mini mart get just what you need but at posted prices – no surprise inflated charges. Be it that bottle of wine, a beauty product, or a small ready meal (cooked in the available microwave), the full-of-surprises lobby mini mart has it all.

Stay fit

For those guests not into winter fun on snow or ice, the Hilton Garden Inn Davos sports a gym, with directly connected spa area that has sauna, infrared cabin, experience shower and steam room. What could be better than getting warm again in the sauna and unwinding thoroughly after a day on the slopes?

Any of the spa and beauty treatments can be booked ahead of time. Across from the Hilton Garden Inn Davos, treatments are also available at the eau-là-là wellness oasis. Unfortunately, it was closed during our stay on account of the WEF.

Summary

The Hilton Garden Inn Davos offers all target groups, from business travelers and winter sports enthusiasts to families the expected comfort at reasonable prices. The hospitable staff is very happy to give advice and help answer any questions. All this helps me forget that they reliably misspelled my name ;-)

Many thanks indeed to Marius Gartmann of Grayling for the consideration shown our blog and to Martina Walsoe and Robert Attenberger of the Hilton Garden Inn Davos for their hospitality.
