New hotels are sprouting up like mushrooms from the ground of what once was the Zurich West industrial district! This time we tested the Sheraton Zurich West open since January 2014. There is little that it does not offer its guests!

Having already showcased the Renaissance Zurich Tower Hotel in 2011 and the 25hours Zurich West in 2012, this time we turned to the newest landmark in Zurich’s trendsetter neighborhood for the next in our series: The Sheraton Hotel Zurich West located on Pfingstweidstrasse 100 in the new Hard Turm Park high rise, where it is right at home among the area‘s other upmarket lodgings.

Where industrial enterprises once stood, now new hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs and theater impart a happening “multiculti charm.”

About Sheraton Hotel Zurich West

The hotel’s lobby is furnished elegantly, with the artificial fire pit and sitting areas in tastefully coordinated colors creating a fine ambiance.

Just off the lobby Link @ Sheraton, there is a free Internet lounge with state-of-the art PCs by Lenovo and Microsoft.

Apropos Internet…in-room WiFi is available, but to be charged extra for it does seem a bit anachronistic.

Spacious rooms and suites

The 197 modern, spacious rooms and suites are warm, bright and furnished in style. At 31 m2 even the standard category room is comparatively large! If you prefer something (still) more spacious, you can book a Sheraton Executive Room (38 m2) or step up to a suite…

Incidentally, the” Club rooms ” and “ Club suites ” are located on the 9th and 10th floors. with simultaneous access to the exclusive Sheraton Club lounge with its comfortable seating groups and work stations, free WiFi for unlimited network connectivity and complimentary food and beverage service throughout the day. After all, this is a Sheraton…

To top it off, from up here you get a breathtaking view of the pulsating Westend!

The spacious bathroom has a walk-in shower with rain shower head , with a glass wall that lets you look into the room. For privacy, you simply pull a frosted glass wall over it. Along with the bathroom’s generous dimensions, we were very impressed by its stylishly curved Grohe fixtures.

By the way, in Sheraton Hotels you sleep on Sweet Sleeper® beds for a deeeep and restful sleep, as the name implies!

Should you want to have a read in bed before turning in, you will marvel at the bedside reading lights: let into both ends of the headboard, they swing out and swivel. Soon as you master these designer touches, you are ready for a sweet reading experience…

Restaurant “Route Twenty-Six”

No, the Sheraton restaurant’s name is not intended to evoke Route 66, at least not directly. Rather, it alludes to a different, in this case symbolic route through the 26 Swiss cantons and the culinary specialties that each presents.

Table setting in Route Twenty Six

In the open show kitchen, the chefs star as they dish up sizzling fish, meat and vegetarian delicacies from the 26 Swiss cantons: sliced veal Zurich style, veal sausage from Appenzell, or Graubünden-style capuns, to name just a few.

We went for the Lake Zurich scallops (…) and an Angus filet with EXCEPTIONAL forest mushroom-sweet potato ragout.

And this was preceded by an appetizer in the form of a fried quail egg, a starter that says “hello from the kitchen”

In contrast to Route Twenty Six, in the NUOVO Café & Bar it’s life Italianità style. Dominating here are Italian coffee, antipasti, exquisite pasta and, of course, a list of Italian wines.

NUOVO hotel bar

Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. during the Sheraton “social hour,” you can savor Mediterranean delicacies together with fine wines at the attractive price of CHF 13.50. This is bound to turn the long bar into the new neighborhood hangout.

Achieving that status will take some doing, for there is no lack of competition, with Sphère, La Salle, Viadukt, and the Renaissance Hotel nearby, and, right next door, the 25hours Hotel– and that’s just the competition when the weather is bad. When the sun shines, add the Limmat River, Turbine Square, or the Josefswiese Park to the mix, not to mention the Upper and Lower Letten public swimming pools or the Werdinsel island recreation area…
