In March 2014 a four-star urban hotel boasting a prime location in downtown Basel opened its doors: The Passage. It’s the hotel’s location that gives it this particular name, since it stands on the boundary of the old town and the new city of Basel.

Thanks to its central location the hotel is situated at walking distance of shopping streets, museums, theaters and tourist attractions.

Urban stay at The Passage hotel

White is the predominant color throughout the interiors of The Passage hotel giving it an urban design character. Highlight colors are selectively added through furnishings, lighting and accessories making for a very calm and comfortable atmosphere.

The patio lends itself perfectly as a soothing urban oasis where you share drinks and snacks with friends in an intimate and friendly environment.

Rooms, Lofts and Deluxe Suites at The Passage

The hotel offers 52 rooms, a deluxe suite and three exceptional lofts with well-equiped kitchens and a private terrace or balcony.

The hotel scores with spacious, high-ceiling rooms flooded with light. All rooms feature light oak floors and brightly colored decorative elements creating a striking contrast.

Deluxe room

On the walls you will see the names of Basel’s most famous events such as the Art Basel or the Swiss Indoors tennis tournament. And as we all know – Basel is the hometown of tennis star Roger Federer!

Also the bathroom is very ample and features a walk-in shower and complimentary L’Occitane en Provence toiletries.

Among other the rooms also offer comfortable amenities such as an iPod docking station and a Nespresso coffee machine – what else?

The hotel is mainly praised for business since it also offers a conference room and fitness center. But we can also highly recommend it to leisure guests since it is located perfectly when visiting Basel.

Restaurants in Basel

Those who prefer to eat “inhouse” will be disappointed, though, since you won’t find a traditional restaurant in the hotel (a breakfast buffet is available at the bar lounge).

However, that’s not so bad since once you get out of the hotel you’ll find yourself near “Barfüsserplatz” with several restaurants and bars. The Basel Tourism website offers a broad choice of Basel’s restaurants.

Trade fair and cultural city of Basel

Basel has become one of the leading trade fair and congress centres in Switzerland. The city’s congress building is right in the city’s heart – a fact that is appreciated by trade fair participants and visitors alike.

Most important events include the likes of Art Basel, the largest art fair in the world, Art Basel Miami or Baselworld, the world trade fair for watches and jewellery, Basel attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year!

Here are a few impressions from our short stay in Basel:

But Basel is also nicknamed “cultural capital of Switzerland” since it has an exceptional cultural offering such as several museums, a theatre house and world-renowned works of art!

Basel is definitively worth a visit, even just to stroll the picturesque old town…
