Most probably you are heading to Annecy in France because you’ve heard that it is a picturesque easy going city by the peaceful Lake Annecy. What you may not be aware of is ‘Un Lieu Unique – Gites Urbains’, an urban boutique style vacation home setup by the romantic Thiou canal in the heart of the Annecy city centre.

Un Lieu Unique – Le Dolce Apartment

Un Lieu Unique – Gites Urbains consists of two apartments by the canal (Le Dolce & The Lodge) and a third one a few steps further down the street (Cocon).

The one room apartment offers generous boutique design luxury including a little balcony on the canal, Nespresso coffee and free wifi internet access.

A little kitchen with all amenities allows for home cooking if desired. But then again there are plenty of small and cosy restaurants around the corner. We tried moules at the Captain Pub Grill.

Un Lieu Unique – Cocon

The Cocon apartment is a white dream a few meters down the Jean Jacques Rousseau street.

The room is very atmospheric and features a (white) kitchenette with the now usual Nespresso machine. Enjoyed that a lot ;-)

Same as the Dolce apartment the Cocon features a flat tv screen, an iPod and free wifi access.

Annecy – old city centre

The city of Annecy is nicely nested into the riviera of Lake Annecy. Plenty of cafés and restaurants offer patios by the canal and by the lake.

The city hall marks the transition from the city to recreational parks by the lake and according fishermen boats.

Annecy’s relaxed atmosphere lends itself perfectly for a little street concert at Café des Arts.

Bikers, rollerbladers, hikers or golfers will find perfect conditions for practising their respective passion.

Dinner in Annecy

You will find plenty of restaurants by the picturesque canal.

Due to windy weather conditions we opted for the cosy Captain Pub Grill and enjoyed tasty moules and pommes frites.

At another occasion we got lucky and locals Sun Mee and Renaud offered fois gras made at home and a roulade de la volaille à la truffe avec son gratin dauphinois. That spectacularly well made menu was rounded off with fromage crême de Saint Agur and fraises mara des bois au chantilly.

Needless to say that the Château Carpe Diem from côtes de provence was a nice fit and the opening Gewürztraminer Vieille Vigne made its effect.

I know the menu this precisely because host Sun Mee was craving to make it into my travel blog and I wanted to get it all right.

Here you are, Sun Mee ;-)

Thanks for having us!

Unfortunately I learned about her wish only after we had dinner. Therefore there are no menu photos… But be assured that her cooking skills are exceptional! Rumour has it that also Renaud is a wonderful chef…

Update June 25, 2011:

      Also noch recht vernünftig ;-)
