Sicily in spring: We were expecting burnt soil and found blooming meadows instead! Sicily boasts spectacular landscapes with white villages nestled into the cliffs, nice food, beautiful golf courses and cosy boutique hotels.

We highly recommend the boutique hotels Belli Resort in Gratteri or Cambiacavallo. They both offer very stylish and careful lodging.

Those who are into art may want to spend a night at the Art Hotel Atelier sul Mare in Castel di Tusa. The room ‘The Water Carriers’ is quite something!

Itinerary for 12 days on a relaxed roundtrip

From Catania (Una Hotel Palace) you take north to Castiglione/Linguaglossa (Hotel Il Nido dell’ Etna) for a round of excellent golf in Il Picciolo (the rental equipment was brand new) and then to Taormina (Hotel Monte Tauro). From there the route follows the coast via Messina to Castel di Tusa (Atelier sul Mare), Cefalù and Gratteri (Belli Resort).

From Sicily’s second 18 hole golf course Le Madonie close to Gratteri we drove south via Piazza Armeria to Caltagirone. Modica, Ragusa, Pozzallo (Cambiacavallo) and Noto are the picturesque cities around.

Via Siracusa and its ancient Ortigia peninsula we took back to Catania’s international airport.

We enjoyed this 12-day roundtrip with a rental car at the end of May/beginning of June. Holidays in Sicily are indeed as nice as everybody keeps saying ;-)
