The Garden Route in South Africa is one of the most amazing scenic routes. From George to Port Elizabeth it takes you on a journey through picture perfect beaches and unspoilt wilderness.

Our journey started in Knysna where we stayed at the luxury boutique accomodation Kanonkop Guest House. The Hotel is located on Kanonkop Hill above Knysna. We had the beautiful ‘Forest’ Room.

The hosts Chris, Mark and Samantha Conyers show a great hospitality. They gave us some great tips, for example for dinner they recommended the Restaurant Sirocco. where we had a delicious seafood platter.

During the following days we visit several national parks, such as the Nature Valleys, where you have a breathtaking view of the coast.

Another spectacular scenery is the Goukamma Nature Reserve. The nature reserve includes a long beach and an extensive dune field.

On the recommendation of Chris the next day we went to Monkeyland – the worlds first free roaming multi-specie primate sanctuary.

Next to the Monkeyland there is Birds of Eden park. With 23’000 sqm it is the largest free flight bird aviary in the world.

After this wonderful day among all those birds and monkeys, we had a reservation for dinner at the turkish delight Restaurant Chutzpah at Phantom Forest Lodge – a luxury eco reserve destination in afromontane forest.

The Garden Route is also a very popular golf destination with world class courses adorning dramatic cliff tops and scenic countryside. Our golfing favorites of the Garden Route between George und Port Elizabeth were Simola, Pezula, Goose Valley and St. Francis Links.

Pezula Championship Golf Course is a breathtaking, award-winning 18-hole golf course and is rated amongst the best and the most scenic golf courses in the world.

Another overwhelming Golf course is the Simola Golf Course, the first Jack Nicklaus Signature course on the Garden Route, reflecting the maestro’s philosophy of attuning the layout and design to the natural lie of the land. Just awesome!!
