The new 25hours hotel has opened in Zurich’s West End. The team from Alfredo Häberli Design Development rendered Zurich’s newest Design Hotel in funky colors and with a young touch and lots of little reminders of Zurich.

In the person of Alfredo Häberli, regarded as the George Clooney of the design scene, a well-known Argentine transplant to the city with his studio in Zurich’s Seefeld could take a lead role in designing the brand new 25hours hotel. Architektur & Wohnen magazine’s Designer of the Year in 2009, he saw his design concepts also implemented on a large scale in a hotel project that took three years to complete.

Although the hotel managers and the design all say “young,” the conference facilities come with resonant names like “Guild Hall.” But there is also a “Häberli Suite,” and in the restaurant, the menu takes its inspiration from other, more or less famous, Swiss citizens like Syra Marty (anyone remember Marilyn Monroe’s greatest rival?) But, to be fair, everyone surely knows Michelle Hunziker and Dieter Meier and his organic Argentine beef.

Christoph Hoffmann, dynamic CEO of the 25hours hotel chain und hotel manager Anita Vogler with barely contained enthusiasm, show off the different types of rooms and more and then lead the way to the first floor with its “Kitchen Club,” an event venue where nice dinners can be served from its top-end Bulthaup kitchen.

Right next to the Kitchen Club is the internet lounge with two Macs and a small refreshments bar with tea and water.

By referencing Zurich, the 25hours Hotel, wants to invite guests on a journey of discovery: The mirrors in back of the bar are shaped like islands in Lake Zurich with boats bobbing among them.

How this relates to the coins embedded in the bar floor is something everyone must figure out for themselves on the spot.

Rooms in the Platinum and Silver category come in dazzling bright colors. Some of them have large window-size openings into the bathrooms. For the solo business traveler, it will help create a generous ambiance, but the lack of privacy could make it an issue with double occupancy. They are aware of this in the hotel and, if necessary, have little blinds available.

As suggested by the Mini toy cars on the desks, hotel guests can avail themselves of BMW Minis for excursions. Denizens of Zurich naturally know that they can just as well get around on public transport, especially since the Number 4 tram stops right next door at the “Toni Areal” tram station. Still, it’s a generous perk!

Like the nearby Renaissance Zürich Tower Hotel 25hours also tries to identify itself with the neighborhood: With the Sphere bookstore It has entered into a joint enterprise that takes the form of the library in the lobby.

The lobby will also serve bands as a platform where they can play for a small audience and at the same liven up the entrance area.

The sauna on the top floor offers an aerie-like view of Zurich’s West End and the tracks by the central train station.

The Häberli Suite

This suite, named after the designer Alfredo Häberli, presents itself in quite exclusive fashion. Not only is this the hotel’s only suite, but here, too, they’ve stepped up their game: So, for example, there is the bathtub standing free in the middle of the room…

Restaurant and brunch/breakfast buffet

The restaurant menu may not be all that extensive, but it has a nice variety. To sate a light hunger, we tried the lentil vegetable stew and a lake trout. For dessert we could not resist the tarte tatin with Basel Leckerli biscuit parfait. It went down really well!

We think the rich breakfast buffet deserves special mention. Although not officially advertised as a brunch, it easily could be … it takes up the whole of the hotel bar the entire morning and presents itself in very pleasing fashion! It comes free with the room for guests; for 25 CHF others get quite a deal – perhaps the best bang-for-the buck brunch in Zurich West. And that’s every day, not just on Sundays…

Don’t need it quite that sumptuous? For CHF 9.- you get a start on your day with a small Quick Breakfast.

The Italian coffee brewer by La Marzocco does its thing, of course, so that the latte macchiato really packs a flavor wallop. Or maybe it’s the smiles from the young servers! In any event, the day starts well at the 25hours.
