Built in elegant country house style, the Hotel Le Vieux Manoir by Relais & Châteaux is located in a large park in the Bernese Seeland directly on the shores of picturesque Lake Murten. If you are looking for genuine calm and gastronomic flights of fancy, take a closer look at this gem…

As part of our Relais & Châteaux “Harley-Davidson Route du Bonheur” through Romandy, hotel host Daniel Ziegler and sales and marketing head Ulrike Ruf received us for a “lunch stop”.

What they caused to be served at our table on the garden terrace after the impressive hotel tour was out of this world… But first things first:

The romantic Hotel Le Vieux Manoir on Lake Murten

Hotel entrance

The stately country house in a privileged location on the lake practically breathes liberality and elegance. To some degree, this impression owes a certain something to the elegant appearance of hotel host Daniel Ziegler ;-)

Be that as it may, you feel instantly well taken care of. It already starts in the magnificent garden, where, for example, a designer beach shower lends the requisite note of extravagance.

The main building‘s rooms are furnished authentically and benefit from lots of glass and winter garden-like architecture.

Guest rooms in the Vieux Manoir

Each of the 34 exceptional theme rooms is like a little work of art, each enlivened by individual colors and themes. Most of them have a private balcony. The rooms were designed by the renowned interior design team of Jasmin Grego and Stephanie Kühnle.

“Green” room

In addition to the rooms in the main house, a pavilion room called the Glass Diamond that sits out front by the lake on stilts is available. It is an exclusive glass cube with a spectacular view of Lake Murten; you reach this high perch via a steel staircase.

New under the heading of the Relais & Châteaux villa concept, an adjacent lake house is available: up to six people can seclude themselves here, relying or not on the hotel infrastructure as they choose.

For where infrastructure is concerned, the villa lacks nothing: From the living room with fireplace, to several bedrooms, to the self-contained sauna, it has it all.

A gourmet lunch in Le Vieux Manoir

At Murten is where we took our lunch break at this, the first Relais & Châteaux property in Switzerland. We stopped there on our way from Vevey to Neuchâtel on our Relais & Châteaux “Route du Bonheur”.

What a menu they served us on the garden terrace! It was first a feast for the eyes and then a treat for the palate!

Red Snapper with apple due, sweet potatoes, tapioca

The attentive staff around restaurant manager Florian Stroubhard missed no opportunity for displaying their skills, whether on or off the plate.

After this culinary flight of fancy, we continued on our Route du Bonheur, with the Beau Rivage Hotel in Neuenburg our destination..

A cordial Thank you!

Warm thanks to hotel host Daniel Ziegler, sales and marketing representative Ulrike Rug and their practiced team for that insanely good lunch!

Sabine Biedermann of Primus Communications deserves an equally big thank you for organizing and coordinating the tour!

And last but certainly not least, my thanks go to Richard Guyon, Relais & Châteaux director for Switzerland and Liechtenstein, for the generous invitation! We enjoyed the spectacular Harley Davidson tour through these noble hotels to the utmost!
