Built next to the famed San Domenico Golf Course and a few steps away from the Adriatic sea,  the Borgo Egnazia Resort’s inviting rural village style stands out.  The stone architecture, the stylish decoration and the special atmosphere created by the surrounding scenery — olive and lemon trees,  fragrant flower and prickly pears — all contribute to create an extraordinary experience.

Borgo Egnazia Resort Hotel

Borgo Egnazia caters to all walks of life but especially to families, golfers and travelers looking for total relaxation.

Featuring  28 villas and 63 rooms in the central building and 92 typical rural homes, rooms and suites in the adjacent Borgo village this charming resort presents a perfect retreat for all budgets. Located between the mountain and the Adriatic sea near Fasano and Savelletri in the Southern Italian region of Puglia this area boasts reclusive splendor.

Check out their rates and availability here (opens in a new window).

The narrow alley ways of the Borgo village carefully replicate the traditions of the most typical Apulian historical centers.

The village is so picture-perfect that even the plaza’s quaint little church is a “must see” attraction.

We weren’t staying at Borgo Egnazia, but so delighted with our “country house” vacation at the nearby Masseria Cimino — run by the same proprietors — we simply had visit the newly opened resort. The two are really quite close in fact, only a few hundred meters apart.

The lively concierge, Rosita, was very kind to show us around. She literally breathes the resort’s spirit and knows all of the ins and outs of the local architecture’s peculiarities.

We ended our tour with an italian “aperitivo” accompanied by olives, nuts and the typical “Taralli” baked goods. Once you start those little devils you have a hard time stopping!

The orange drink is a tasty concoction called Crodino, and the red one is a Sanbitter.  Whichever you prefer, either is a “must-taste” in Italy.

Update October 2012: Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake Wedding

The glamorous wedding of Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel’s took place at the Borgo Egnazia resort. Biel wore a Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown, and Timberlake a custom-made Tom Ford tuxedo he helped to design.

“It was a total fantasy experience,” Biel told  People magazine.

The couple wed after a week-long bash in southern Italy’s Puglia region, surrounded by family and friends, including fellow A-listers Jimmy Fallon, Andy Samberg, Timbaland and Beverly Mitchell.

The ceremony was also held at the Borgo Egnazia resort.

UK’s Daily Mail has some other photographs of the event.

San Domenico Golf Course next to Borgo Egnazia Resort

The San Domenico Golf Course is a Mediterranean link course boasting a rating that is amongst the best in Italy. The 18-hole championship course lies next to the mesmerizing crystal azures of the Adriatic Sea. The first hole sits alongside a tiny fairway with waterways extending the duration of your game.  Greens and fairways are very well maintained giving you the feeling of having entered a golfer’s paradise.
