Mauritius – the dream island in the Indian Ocean is a coveted destination for many travelers. Little wonder, because Mauritius scores with white sand beaches, luscious green palm trees, and turquoise ocean waters. So, what to go for first? On our recent visit, we collected 15 venues and things you can do for entertainment on the island:

Mauritius is a coveted global luxury destination: the island swarms with 5-star hotels, meals are expensive, the golf courses exclusive. But, this Indian Ocean island ringed by paradisiacal beaches also offers some surprising contrasts. Edelweiss Air operates direct flights to Mauritius from Zurich. It takes just (!) an 11-hour flight to your landing in paradise. Here, the beach sand is of an incredible whiteness, the palm trees are a lush green, the ocean is the color of turquoise and the sunsets are almost gaudy. The occasion was our annual get-together, a time when our daughters fly in from far-away places to reconnect as a family. We chose Auckland’s West Coast beaches because the region is close to the city and none of us had ever been there before. Just 50-60 minutes’ drive from the airport, it was easy for us to collect our far-flung family and run away for a long weekend.

Funny thing about those beach clubs on Ibiza.
