The German word “Ziege” meaning “goat” in that language can shade into negative connotations, as in “dumme Geiss”, which means “silly goat” (or worse). From there it is not much of a leap to “Zicke,”  in American English a “priss” — an uptight person. However, in Italian the word for goat is “capra” and the sound alone is charming. Then calling something “The Capra” is high English style, and this is what happened with a new boutique hotel in the village of Saas-Fee named – The Capra. Alone the daring choice of moniker was reason enough for us to make the trip to Wallis Canton (Valais)….

The island of Sylt is justly renowned for its high-flying culinary offerings. Even in restaurants without stars and toques we feasted exceptionally well. Still, we did not want to deprive ourselves of dining in one of the gourmet establishments. We chose Alexandro Pape’s Fährhaus, known for a kitchen that is “worth its salt”.

Currywurst (curry sausage) is legend in Berlin and you might say that makes it the city’s culinary emblem. But Berlin in the last few years has turned into a true culinary hot spot and lately it is hotel restaurants that have come into the limelight. We let the following hotels dish up their best for us…

For the finale of Gstaad’s three-day Travel Blogger Events, they really knocked one out of the park. We had a chance to partake of a jewel of a restaurant well off the beaten path in Saanen’s historic village center. What we didn’t know beforehand: behind it was the Buchs restaurateur and catering family, renowned for how adept they are behind their pans…

What is it that just landed in the village of Saanen? Did it come from another planet? From Italy? Thailand? From planet Takeout maybe? Far out? You bet! It’s the Boucherie (English: Butcher Shop), which just happens to be the latest (g)astronomical project launched here by those perpetual-motion brothers, Simon and Nik Buchs.

The hotel’s name says it all: Surrounded by its magnificent park-like grounds, the renowned Park Weggis resides right on the shore of Lake Lucerne. With private lake access, beachfront and boat dock, and a stunning vista of the Rigi and the Swiss Central Alps, the hotel grounds instill a pure Riviera feeling!

Above Gstaad in the Bernese Oberland stands the elegant boutique hotel The Alpina Gstaad. With its 20,000 m2(!) of park-like grounds, luxurious premises and rooms, three extraordinary restaurants, a spa with indoor and outdoor pools and breathtaking view this establishment offers an Alpine hotel encounter of the superior kind! This is how we tested it…
