The luxury hotel ‘La Mamounia’ is located at a short walk from Marrakech’s city centre. It is said to offer one of Africa’s most atmospheric spa & wellness setups. Next time around I should free up some more time in order to check with my own eyes ;-)

La Mamounia Luxury Hotel – Marrakesh, Morocco

One of Africa’s most luxurious hotels is La Mamounia, situated at short walking distance from the Marrakech city centre. Staff members are very friendly – okay, what did I expect… – but still, I was impressed.

The art deco and moorish decoration and lighting by designer Jacques Garcia is fairly dark, maybe as a contrast to the bright sunshine outside. Fresh callas and different room types make for a varied hotel lobby setup that fits classy tastes.

The parking lot sign may be a bit rusty – but very much in style, of course…

We stayed at the Palmeraie Golf Palace this time around and not at La Mamounia, hence I can’t report on the rooms and the allegedly fabulous spa, just yet.

Condé Nast Traveller’s readers voted the spa as their number one out of a list of the world’s top 25 spas. Condé Nast has also named La Mamounia Best Hotel for service in Africa, Middle East & Indian Ocean for 2011.

I’ve heard about La Mamounia for years – but didn’t appreciate just how ornate it was. I understand you can purchase a day pass and sit by the pool – and people watch for hours.

    Wonderful shots.

Thanks for posting them to Travel Photo Thursday.

As far as I understand they also offer official hotel tours. Didn’t know that at the time…
I just hanged out in the lobby.
