Are you up for once again falling head over heels for some sweet little thing? All it took for us was a visit to Max Chocolatier in Zurich to fall for… those little pralines!

Max Chocolatier is a chocolate maker based in Lucerne with an offshoot at Schlüsselgasse 12 in Zurich’s Altstad (Old Town). Step inside, and you instantly know that here it is all about one thing: driving devotees of great chocolate mad.

If you want to take your taste buds to the edge, you’ve come to the right address and sales/marketing manager Claudia Wiedergrün to introduce you to the just-arrived spring collection. To name just one temptation among many that we encountered: it combined sub-tropical lychee jelly with spicy Thai chili.

The really hot one…

But before you get a chance to blush bashfully with your head on fire, a smooth Edelweiss chocolate soothes the palate and the soul.

Wow, that was close…

The distaff bloggers from Swiss Glam, Life of an It-girl, I am Metal Heart, Franziska Freiermuth and Nadja Mathis were also blown away by the new spring assortment! You’ll find their photos on Instagram under #localgastro.

Other pralines in the assortment come when called by their simple but alluring names, like Java 64% or Crudo 70% or wanderlust-inducing Elvesia 74% from the Dominican Republic. No surprise here if the latter convinces the palate with notes of black tea and tobacco.

Other delights insist on peanut, amaretto, champagne, port, wild rose and hibiscus, pine nuts or pistachios. Or perhaps even mandarin orange and saffron. Like it says, pralines to fall in love with!

But, hey, why try to describe chocolate in detail? It’s like trying to explain love. My recommendation is, go there, taste test, and prepare to be smitten! To paraphrase a certain wise character by the name of Forrest Gump:

life is like a chocolate box – you never know what you gonna get.
