Pure Design: Iconic Icon Hotel in the Heart of Prague

Conveniently situated in a calm side street lies a hidden hotel gem. It can only be recognised by the stylish tapas bar. When you look closer you will discover the hotel’s Icon logo in the first floor and a madonna above a historic wooden door. That’s the actual entrance. Many customers or passers-by obviously also make it via the bar’s more inviting entrance. But if you are heading in the hotel’s direction you’ll probably have the address at hand and easily find the door to a whole different inside world…

Albeit embedded in the historic structure, the 31 stylish rooms and junior suites feature sophisticated and tasteful design as well as high-tech gadgets like a biometric secured safe or the more usual iPod docks and Wi-Fi access.

The Icon Hotel’s Swedish hand-made Hästens beds come with a twist: They are soo cosy that it would be a pity to have to get up in the morning because the breakfast buffet is closing. Hence breakfast is served until 11 pm… So I might as well have ordered breakfast instead of the tasty tapas and beer when I checked out the lounge at night. What does that tell us about those Hästens beds?

Their imperial purple from the silky bedspreads makes for a lively ambience that is reflected in the lounge.

“Room” Tapas Bar and Lounge

Besides the Room tapas bar facing the street, the intimate design hotel also offers a larger lounge further back that hosts changing art exhibitions.

During the day it’s illuminated by an atrium, at night it turns into a colorful and relaxed hangout with DJ desk and according beats.

For tapas I tried the black rice with mussels and a pulpo with green beans. Together with the latin sound it made me feel at Barcelona’s beach…

Very tasty! And the Staropramen unfiltered beer that came with it is a world leader in its class… It easily made it to the number 2 spot in my personal beer ranking only second to Spain’s Almeria based “Alhambra” treat.

Thanks to Juan and Juan, the waiter and cook team behind this excellent experience! Sorry guys for the lousy photograph…
