25hours Hamburg Number One – affordable Design Hotel for the young set

Hotelier of the Year 2003 Kai Hollman caused a stir when he opened 25hours as one of the first affordable Design Hotels in the Budget Deluxe niche catering to a young clientele. What started a decade ago as a party bar with a place to crash for the night has over the years turned into a successful design hotel, but one still with a wink of the eye. Case in point: where else would they hand you a “men’s handbag “at the front desk?

Men, don’t get the wrong idea: This handbag is not your latest fashion accessory, but a six pack of Hamburg’s local cult beer, Astra Urtyp, in the “Arschkalt” (“Cold Butt”) winter edition. Brewed by Astra. Bottoms up!

Design, Pop, Retro

In Number One the 25hours hotel builders gave an unconventional design for the young and the young at heart its first try, combining modern elements with 60s and 70s retro-chic and always with that little wink.

Rooms come in sizes M, L, XL and XL-Family and differ in their design elements, such as the wallpaper or furniture.

For groups or small events lasting days there is a “Guesthouse.” Workshop participants are free to keep body and soul together in its small kitchen – the refrigerator is said to hold a ton of beer, but only the local Astra brew, of course ;-) – but there is always the hotel infrastructure naturally to fall back on.

In the restaurant, they serve down-to-earth German-Mediterranean cuisine. The curry corn soup tastes great; the tagliatelle with oyster mushrooms and leaf spinach could be straight out of an Italian restaurant!

Next door, you can chill in the lounge, aka the living room. Here, too, you will find a tea bar for your enjoyment.

Historically speaking, this is where 25hours Hotels started when they began offering partiers a place to rest their heads – and feet – after all night carousing in the Bahrenpark.

During summer, guests relax on the hotel’s sun terrace or can indulge in the day spa at the Hotel Gastwerk nearby. Or, for a change, they can divert themselves in its bar and restaurant. There is no shortage of diversions in the vicinity, starting with the Hexenkessel. Hexenkessel just around the corner.

These days, smokers are asked to go outside, but just for them there is small smokers lounge.
