Masseria Fumarola, Martina Franca in Puglia

Masseria Fumarola is a rural trulli style guest house which perfectly combines the charm of a traditional 19th century Puglian farmhouse with the service and amenities of a modern hotel.

Situated just outside the town of Martina Franca, Masseria Fumarola is the perfect base for those eager to explore the landscapes or cities nearby, experiencing the age-old traditions and the romantic appeal of the trulli, the traditional bee-hive shaped dwellings, typical symbol of Puglia. But, of course, you may as well just hang out by the pool…

Masseria Fumarola in Puglia, Italy

Masseria Fumarola is a wonderful Puglia country resort offering authentic trulli accommodation. The iconic stone buildings of the structure are from the 18th century.

Situated in a calm setting surrounded by characteristic olive trees you will enjoy tranquility on the beautiful grounds. The masseria offers numerous outdoor lounges and patios to relax.

And the fabulous swimming pool is surrounded by chestnut, cactus and olive trees. And the usual loungers with sun screen.

It really is a oasis of calm out in the nature.
Even the masseria’s house cat ‘Francesco’ feels at ease with the hotel guests. He followed us wherever we went. Okay, we also were the only guests as mid October is just after the best season.

Also the reception and main building offers some nice and comfortable spots. With the colder season arriving the fireplace will add to the warm atmosphere.
Breakfast is served here and WiFi internet access is available, too.

Rooms at Masseria Fumarola

Masseria Fumarola’s bedrooms, suites and apartments are characterized by trulli style roofs, exposed stone walls and massive fireplaces.

Wooden closets and decor add to the rural atmosphere.

safe as wooden closet at hotel room in Masseria FumarolaEven the safe was quite roomy… Since we couldn’t find a ‘usual’ safe, we helped ourselves with a ‘natural’ one, i.e. a wooden closet with a combination lock :-)

This time around we didn’t need to lock away the SLR camera but locked away the whole camera bag instead. Including two laptop typewriters and much more.

One of three available shelf boards still remained empty! Should have rented that out to other hotel guests. But right, we were the only guests at the time…

Way nicer than figuring out the usually small hotel safes and their more or less high tech number combinations. The SLR camera usually fits in only when turning, lifting, folding and squeezing it halfway around while putting it into the safe. That’s after removing flash and tripod first, of course…

It was our first stay in a trulli style suite and we enjoyed it a lot. However, it might get pretty cold in winter since the trulli are not insulated and are rather supposed to protect from the prohibitive summer heat. But after turning on the heating we felt comfortable after a while. The next step would have included using the fireplace. We assumed that in winter you can still warm up these massive stone walls. Not sure about the windows and doors, though, there was quite some cold air sifting through…

Restaurant at Masseria Fumarola

Unfortunately we did not eat at Masseria Fumarola’s restaurant since we were the only guests (mid of October is off-season). But the breakfast was delicious and the buffet was prepared with love. It was all cosy to have breakfast in the ancient stable which now is wonderfully converted into a refined restaurant.

Oh, and before we forget, they serve the best ricotta-chocolate-cake we ever had!
