Top three Ibiza holiday activities

Ibiza is famous the world over as a top clubbing destination.

However, there is much more to this island than all-night raves and sun-kissed beaches. Here, we shall take a look at three of the top activities for those who want to explore the rest of the White Isle.

Diving

Feeling a little hot under the collar? Diving in Ibiza can be a great way to get out of the heat and into the cool, clear water to explore the full beauty of the local marine environment.

Whether you have never gone scuba diving before, or you are vastly experienced beneath the waves, you can get everything you need from equipment to professional training at one of the diving centers in San Miguel, Portinatx, or San Antonio.

One of the best places to go diving on the island is the Las Salinas National Park, which is a UNESCO world heritage site famous for its diverse marine life and ecologically important sea grass.

Cycling

While Ibiza is famous for its beaches, much of the island is actually covered in dense, fragrant forests full of lemon, almond, pine, fig, and olive trees.

The northeast part of the island, in particular, is a rural idyll far removed from the 24-hour party people lifestyle for which the island is famous.

There are 21 main cycle routes on the island, graded from Green, which is around 9 miles and takes one or two hours to complete, to Black, which is 53 miles or approximately eight hours. These routes cover every corner of the island, and the directions can be downloaded to a GPS device or smartphone.

The best time to go biking is just outside of the peak holiday season in April, May, and October, when the weather is a little cooler.

Visiting the historic town of Dalt Vila

Ibiza is an island with a rich history, with a varied mix of colonial influences from its time under Moorish, Spanish, French, and Turkish rule. The best place to see this clash of historic architectural styles is in the old town of Ibiza Town, Dalt Vila.

This walled town is set on a steep incline upwards from the waters around Ibiza town, and its most prominent feature is a beautiful 16th century cathedral.

Walking up its cobbled streets to the castle, you will see host of beautiful buildings dating back to medieval times, such as mansions and townhouses, as well as a number of shops selling the best ice cream the island has to offer.
